HASC | For Salt III

HASC hosts their largest Smash 4 tournament yet: For Salt III! This tournament features over twice the amount of players as a normal HASC tournament! This includes the most of the normal HASC tournament attendees along with many newcomers, all ready to show their skills on the controller. Players can choose to play their matches on either the 3DS or Wii U. Of course, if a Wii U is not available, the players will default to the 3DS version of the game, as there should be plenty of 2DS and 3DS consoles to go around.

On April 7th, 2017, we will stop accepting participants and contact everyone to see if they can or cannot go. Once everyone is confirmed or denied, bracket predictions will be enabled for both the winners and losers brackets, and will be available up until the day of the tournament at 4:00 PM, so if you have a Challonge account, feel free to make your predictions! The tournament will officially start on April 13th (Thursday) at 4:00 PM and go until 7:30 PM.

Rules:

Game Settings:

2 Stock, 6 Minute Time Limit

Items/Equipment Off

Sets are Best of 3 until payout sets, which are bo5

ALL DLC CHARACTERS ARE LEGAL

Amiibos are banned.

Custom moves are NOT allowed (even Palutena).

Guest Sized Mii Fighters are allowed with any moveset (no equipment).

Either player may elect for a blind character pick at the beginning of the set.

Stage Striking:

The rules on stage striking from the official Smashboards thread, modified for HASC tournaments:

1.      Players select their characters. Either player may choose to Blind Pick. In this case, each player secretly tells a third player their character before picking with the third player verifying their selections.

2.      Players play Rock-Paper-Scissors. Winner chooses between selecting controller port (Wii U) or first Stage Strike.

3.      Players take turns removing stages from the Starter Stages list below based upon the results of the previous rule. The first player to strike removes one(1) stage from the list, the second player removes two(2), then the first player bans one more stage and then they proceed to play on the only stage remaining.

4.      The players play the first match of the set.

5.      Winning player of the preceding match bans a stage from the full list of stages, both Starter and Counterpick. Does not apply to Best of 5 sets.

6.      The losing player of the preceding match picks a stage for the next match. Cannot choose the stage banned in the previous step, nor a stage they've already won on during this set, unless agreed.

7.      The winning player of the preceding match may choose to change characters.

8.      The losing player of the preceding match may choose to change characters.

9.      The losing player of the preceding match may change their controller port (Wii U).

10.    The next match is played.

11.    Repeat Steps 5 through 10 for all subsequent matches until the set is complete.

Set Lengths:

All sets will be best 2/3 up until semi-finals. From there, all sets are best 3/5. If a match ends in a tie, a 3 minute, 1 stock match will be played with both players playing the same characters on the same stage they tied on.
